Job of a tour operator is to combine tour and travel components of a holiday. He manages the travel and stay of the tourists, ensuring delightful journey. There is no need of any specific course to become a tour operator. One just needs practical experience as well as adequate capital to become a tour operator. However, a Degree/Diploma/Certificate course in Travel and Tourism does help, giving one a professional outlook and providing an edge over others.
Usually qualification needed for some of these courses is 10+2 pass, while for others it is a bachelor’s degree. Tourism and Travel management courses are more advantageous for tour operators.
As for the employment after the course, one can work with established tour operators, get employed with government tourism departments or start own travel agency. However, one should get some practical experience before starting own venture.
